This is a basic heating mat but it does have a control that allows you to pick a general range of heating. It’s not thermostatically controlled, that’s a more expensive item if a thermostat is built in or if you’re by a separate thermostat to control the mat. It has a control that allows setting it to a certain range but there’s no thermostatic control that is measuring to see what temperature you’re actually getting and giving feedback to raise or lower the temp. But it did the trick for me. Based on the reviews from other people I put it on a piece of cardboard which helps keep the heat going in the right direction. I used a thermometer to test the temperature of my soil after it was on for a few hours, adjusting the dial upward and downward to get the temperature I was looking for. These heat mats don’t have a specific temperature as much as they have a differential above the ambient temperature in the room. So this heat mat is unlikely to start peppers in a cold greenhouse. But in my house it worked great and the price was right.
