Description Phaseolus vulgaris This dry bean is the most reliable variety for finishing in short season gardens. Bush growing habit with some runners. A small golden bean that we suspect is derivative of the Swedish Brown Bean. Cooks to a creamy consistency, with thin skins that hold up and don’t split even in long cooked stews. An ideal baked bean. We also found this bean one of the most productive and easiest to thresh and clean. Certified Organic. 85 days. Seeds grown by Deluge Farm in Paradise, MT and Good Egg Farm in Moiese, MT. Available in bulk sizes: A. 1 oz $3.50 B. 4 oz $8.00 C. 1 lb $14.00–out of stock [hr] Growing tips: Beans prefer warm soil to germinate, so it’s best to sow when you’ll have a few warm sunny days in a row. Light colored bean seeds are more susceptible to rot in cold wet soil than are dark colored beans, so you can get away with earlier sowing of the black or red bean seed. Season: Direct sow after danger of spring frost, into warm soil. In Montana this is usually late May or June. Germination: Seeds can pop up in just a few days in good conditions, or may take up to a week. Sowing instructions: 1 seed every 4 inches, about an inch deep. 2-3 rows per 4′ bed, or in rows 2′ apart. Emmalou’s Golden Dry Bean, Organic Seed
